Recreational Fires

Cooking and/or small recreational fires do NOT require a permit from the Sierra Vista fire and Medical Services. The definition of a recreational fire is the noncommercial burning of materials other than rubbish for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking, or similar purposes in which the fuel burned is not contained in an incinerator, a barbecue grill, or a barbecue pit, and the total fuel area is not exceeding 3 feet in diameter, and 2 feet in height. The burning of yard clippings, trash, or dimensional lumber is prohibited for these types of fires within the City of Sierra Vista.

Fires larger than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height are considered Bonfires and will require a permit from the City of Sierra Vista Fire Department. Please call or email the Sierra Vista Fire and Medical Services Office of the Fire Marshal  (520) 439-2230 for Permitting instructions.

Open burning other than recreational fires and cooking fires are currently prohibited in the City of Sierra Vista.
