The City Attorney, appointed by the Mayor and City Council, is legal advisor and attorney for the City.

The City Attorney presents and defends the City’s legal interests and rights, and prosecutes misdemeanor complaints. The City Attorney is also responsible for attending City Council meetings and serving as legal counsel during such meetings. Upon request, he/she furnishes a written opinion on questions of law involving their respective powers and duties.
