The City of Sierra Vista will charge a maintenance fee of $50 or the value of the property, whichever is less, to process every check that becomes Abandoned Property. 

The process for a check to become Abandoned Property:

-The check becomes Stale Dated after not being cashed for 120 days.
-The City will reach out to the owner by letter or email about the Stale Dated Check.
-If the City does not get a response, after 3 years from the date the check was issued, the check becomes Abandoned Property.
-Once the check is Abandoned Property, the fee will be charged, and the funds will be remit to the State of Arizona.
