The Cochise County Grand Jury indicted two Sierra Vista women on several charges stemming from a fatal dog attack that occurred on June 23 in Sierra Vista.
Sierra Vista residents Shimira Sanches, 43, and Ashlee Sanches, 35, were indicted on charges of manslaughter, negligent homicide, assault by a vicious animal, and aggressive dog violation. These charges stem from a dog attack that occurred in the area of Calle Del Norte on June 23, which resulted in the death of Helene Jackson, an 84-year-old Sierra Vista resident.
The news of the indictment was reported yesterday but could not be confirmed by SVPD or the Cochise County Attorney’s Office because the subjects named in the indictment had not been served. Cochise County Attorney Brian McIntyre stated, “Unless a matter involves a warrant and a request for public assistance locating a suspect, neither law enforcement or the County Attorney’s Office are permitted to make public comment on an indictment prior to it being formally served on the suspect(s).”
SVPD confirms that Shimira Sanches and Ashlee Sanches have been served by the Cochise County Constable and are due to appear in Cochise County Superior Court on Sept. 5, 2023.
