U.S. Highway 80, which passed through much of Cochise County, was the first all-weather transcontinental highway to be designated in the United States. Although not as well-known as Route 66, it carried more passenger traffic and played an important role in the east-west migration of Americans to the Southwest and West Coast during the early part of the Twentieth Century. Remnants of the original Highway 80 and the infrastructure that developed along it can still be found in Cochise.
